Feature artist: Marcia Keefer
Ms Keefer grew up in New Jersey with a big box of craft supplies. She has a BA from Carleton College and an MS (Geology) from the Colorado School of Mines. She has been a weaver for 22 years, a basket weaver for 9 years and likes to dabble in book arts, surface design and other fiber arts. For her, art is all about the materials. How will wild materials change your basket?. How far can you push the materials to make cloth behave like paper or paper behave like cloth? What kind of cloth will feathers make?
Ms Keefer teaches basketry and book arts through the Kennewick Community School and occasional workshops through Allied Arts. She is a member of Desert Fiber Arts, Allied Arts and The White Bluffs Quilt Museum and Center for Fiber Art. She has won awards for her work at Allied Arts, including the Szulinski Award. Her work has been exhibited at the Larson Gallery in the Central Washington Artist’s Show and the Art to Wear Show. She currently shows her work at Allied Arts in Richland.
